Program Manager – DARPA
Mr. David Gunning joined DARPA in December 2015, as an IPA from the
Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). He is an experienced
technology manager with research interests in artificial intelligence
(AI) and human-computer symbiosis.
Mr. Gunning is returning to DARPA for his third tour. During his
previous tour, David managed the Personalized Assistant that Learns
(PAL) program that produced Siri. During his first tour in the 90’s,
he managed a variety of AI projects including the Command Post of the
Future (CPoF), which was later adopted by the US Army as their Command
and Control system for use in Iraq and Afghanistan. Between DARPA
tours, Mr. Gunning was a Program Director for Data Analytics and
Contextual Intelligence at the Palo Alto Research Center (PARC), a
Senior Research Manager at Vulcan Inc., SVP and co-founder of SET
Corp., VP of Cycorp Inc., and a Senior Scientist in the Air Force
Research Labs at Wright Patterson AFB.
Mr. Gunning holds a Master of Science degree in Computer Science
from Stanford University, a Master of Science degree in Cognitive
Psychology from the University of Dayton, and a Bachelor of Science in
Psychology from Otterbein College.
